I believe that nutrition and health are a reflection of body, mind and spirit. Looking at how those are interconnected and acknowledged within each of us is one piece of the puzzle in achieving our personal goals. I often find myself saying, “It’s never just one thing.” There are many aspects that work together to reach an “optimal” state of well-being and performance.
I like to think of nutrition as being multi-dimensional. We can look at macronutrients, micronutrients, nutrient timing, metabolism, genetics, quality of food, quantity of food, hydration, sleep, training demands and …the list goes on. This list is fun and fascinating, and I do integrate these aspects into my work with clients. But, it’s also important to remember where one person starts or what one person needs, or what is best for one person, is ultimately going to be different then what is best or works for another. We are unique individuals and have unique needs. Sure, the foundation is science, and then there is practical application, but all of this needs to be fine-tuned for the person who is living the life this is designed for. This doesn’t have to be complex or complicated, just know that the first step in all of this is making YOU a priority! When you are able to put yourself and your health first, things start to fall in place, goals start to be accomplished – and, most importantly, you can begin to have fun doing it!
