“Every day is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been and look at what can be.”
This is a quote that my friend posted this morning and inspired the content of today’s blog post. This quote can be related to many life occurrences and each person’s own situation. However, in this moment let’s take a look at what this means for your personal health and fitness goals. It is now March, and for those of you that made your 2011 New Year goals and resolutions, you should have quite a few successes under your belt or perhaps you have let those goals become a distant memory…
Today is as good a day as any to reflect on your WHY? What are the goals you have and WHY do you have them? Often keeping a close eye on your WHY will help to motivate you to keep to your action plan. For example, your WHY may be to finish a race, reduce your cholesterol, fit in an old piece of clothing, not breathe heavily walking up a flight of stairs, have the ability to pick up your kids/grandkids, get sick less often…etc. Remember what you do, is for you and lies in your hands. Healthy, short-term attainable goals and actions will lead to the path of long-term success.
If you have successfully reached your goals, what sustainable behaviors helped you the most? What are your next goals? If you have been challenged and faced road blocks, what were your greatest challenges and how can you now approach the goals with a different plan? Is it time to engage the help/support of others, start to journal, change the time when you prepare food or exercise?Often a small tweak to the plan makes a big difference. Again, remember your WHY, and for each new day focus on what CAN be.
You are worth it and you can do it!
