Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! The holiday season can bring a wide range of events and emotions to each individual. Wherever it may fall for you, I wish you the very best on this day and hope you experience love, warmth, nourishment and gratitude. As the Ubuntu expression goes, “I am what I am because of who we all are.” So, THANK YOU!
From a health and fitness standpoint, here are some quick top tips to enjoy and start your holidays with a healthy mindset:
1. Start or keep a family/friend tradition of fitness! Take a walk to start the day, do a group fitness class, play a fun game of football, walk between dinner and dessert or start a Wii Fitness competition.
2. Still start your day with a healthy and lean breakfast. Then before the main sit-down meal, offer light appetizers like fresh seasonal vegetables, shrimp cocktail or individual salads.
3. Swap out at least two traditional recipes with a healthier, lower calorie and lower fat option.
4. Use small plates for the meal. This allows for everyone to fill up their plate and THEN go back for seconds…just eating smaller portions each turn.
5. Buy tupperware in advance and send guests home with leftovers and a personal quote of gratitude to go with it!
